Get OUT There!
A rugged place with raging white water, alpine bogs, smoking volcanoes, and awesome powder snow—this describes only a small fraction of what can be found on the northern island of Hokkaido. HIS is dedicated to providing a wide variety of opportunities for students to Get Out There!
Hiking Mt. Annupuri
Our annual hike to the peak of Mt. Annupuri develops leadership and cooperation skills as classmates work together to get to the top and enjoy the amazing view and a picnic lunch.
Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is a half-day event teaching students about climbing techniques and challenging them to do their best, a great confidence builder!
Ski Trips
Ski trips to the near-by Annupuri Mt. will take place providing students with numerous opportunities to hone their skiing or snowboarding skills as they practice determination, courage, helpfulness and cooperation on the slopes with their classmates.
Snow-shoeing and Igloo Making
Learning about living in northern countries, students will experience snow shoeing and making a real igloo. More details as this activity is developed.
Takino
Our annual winter Takino trip is an overnight held to promote school spirit, build cooperative skills, have fun, experience the great outdoors of Hokkaido, and to learn new things in new ways. Takino is integral part of the HIS curriculum.
Takino Suzuran is a nature park about 20 minutes south of HIS. It includes a large outdoor area for exploring, a huge open field, a building with dorm rooms, baths, cafeteria, classrooms, and a large gymnasium, as well as ample outdoor equipment.
A variety of group and individual activities, including relay races, snow-shoeing and x-country skiing, the annual Capture-the-Flag competition, and plenty of team-building competitions outdoors in the snow.
Rafting the Shiribeshi River
Learning more about nature and our environment, students will have the opportunity to participate in a rafting expedition on the Shiribeshi River in spring. With a focus on learning about our environment, we will take time to check out nature and living creatures along the way as well as enjoy lunch on the riverside.
Activities are organized through reliable organizations and involve teacher participation. Parents are welcome to join in, too!
