Welcome to Hokkaido International School Niseko

Hokkaido International School Niseko is a private, coeducational day school that offers a Western-style education from pre-school through high school for students of all nationalities. English is the language of instruction.

HIS Niseko is in its 14th year of serving the local and international community in Niseko and is the second campus to the Hokkaido International School in Sapporo. The Hokkaido International School was founded in 1958 and is the only accredited international school on the island of Hokkaido.

HIS Niseko is uniquely situated within the international community in the Niseko region and provides a high-quality international education with an emphasis on a place-based curriculum that utilizes the outdoors and the history and culture of Hokkaido. The core curriculum includes access to an international curriculum, Japanese classes, the arts, and physical education. Class sizes are small in keeping a ratio of 1:10 in most classes. The student population draws from local families and the international community.

Hokkaido International School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the Japan Council of International Schools (JCIS) and the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS). HIS is an International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and an International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) school.
