Dear HIS Community

Happy holiday season to everyone!  

2021 was my first full calendar year at HIS, and I am full of gratitude for the experience and for the ongoing support of the HIS community.  We are emerging into the new year with a lot to celebrate as a school.  I would also like to extend a special thank you to everyone involved in supporting the Project Santa effort; we tell students that what you know is important, but it is not as important as who you are.  This project is one more way we demonstrate who we are as a community, and what our mission looks like in action. 

On a more practical note, I also wanted to share a few general reminders as we move into the winter season:

• Please make sure your students come to school warmly dressed with plenty of layers; it’s cold out there!
• It is important for all students to change shoes at the entrance.  This is for several reasons, including safety (slippery / wet floors and shoes cause injuries), cleanliness, and community health (tracking in certain types of debris from outside—such as fox feces—can create health risks).
• Omicron has certainly added a new twist to these closing weeks of 2021. As an international school, of course changes to immigration policy have an outsized impact for us as compared to many other kinds of institutions, so we will be keeping a close eye on developments over the weeks to come.  We’re not yet seeing a reason to change our current pandemic safety protocols, but of course safety is always our first priority, so we will be monitoring closely.  Also please note that we will be unable to provide zoom instruction in January (except for those dormitory students still barred entry), so we would ask our school community to please exercise discretion in planning international travel (we are asking the same of staff).
