A Day in the Life of an Early Years’ Student

by Kiyo Shichida and Ye Eun Hong

The Early Years class at HIS is taught by Ms. Anne Boudreau, A.K.A. Ms. Anne, who is assisted by Ayako Bossaer, in the style of Reggio Emilia, focusing on the language of children.

The 2022-2023 Early Years class (ages 3-5), or EY, is inhabited by nine bright children. The classroom has been created to inspire curiosity and creativity as Ms. Anne and Ms. Bossaer adjust the daily activities to the interests of the children. Daily activities range from playing outside, napping, and attending PE to learning English fundamentals, reading, and building a house out of a box after mixing the paint and exploring the best way to make that box structurally sound. To be sure, EY at HIS encourages thinking out of the box, but it does not discourage thinking about the best way to use a box.
