Reflection

“All this and Heaven too” is one of Frank Sinatra’s top hits. This song was peaking at #3 on the US Billboard charts in 1940. I chose this song for its complex structure and imagery. For my song emulation, I followed the original AABB rhyming scheme to create a similar flow. I also copied Sinatra’s repetition of “You give me…, your…” at the beginning of several stanzas, emphasizing the importance of the second-person perspective in the emulation. I also repeated the line “All this seek and Home at Last”, which is the song emulation’s title at the end of several stanzas, based on the original line “All this is mine and Heaven too.”  This reinforces the theme of my emulation of searching for belonging and finally finding home (the person). In addition, I used personification like “the blossoms seem to call my name”, which makes nature feel welcoming and guides the singer to where they belong, and sensory language such as “the small stream winding clear through the soft grass”, “the hum of the obin melody”, and “Crisp air carries their scent “ to make the setting feel more alive and creates a stronger connection with the audience. I also used a simile in “your patience is like dimmed light in the night” to show how the person provides comfort and guidance, just like a light helps someone find their way in the darkness. Lastly, each stanza represents a different season and stage of the singer's journey. The fourth stanza represents spring, summer, autumn, and winter, respectively, and each season is like a progression of the singer’s story, from finding home to finally finding the person that they call home. The “You” gradually shifts from representing a place to a person, showing that home is not just a location, but about who we’re with, which makes the place perfect. 😀👏🙂😂
