The First Piano Recital of the 2022-2023 School Year
by Kate James
On Friday, February 24th, 2023, the HIS Keyboard class hosted their first piano recital of the year in the MPR for students and teachers to enjoy at the end of 3rd block. Ms.Yong and the keyboard class have been working towards this goal since the beginning of the school year as a part of the class curriculum.
Most students started off as complete piano beginners but were able to learn complicated pieces to display during the performance. No matter any mistakes made during the performance, Ms.Yong and the crowd still celebrated the pianists’ growth from day 1.
The performance included both solo songs and duets. Some of the songs played included classic songs such as Hungarian Dance No. 5, In the Hall of the Mountain King, and Once Upon a December. Leyi, who is the only veteran pianist in the class, said “I felt very warm and excited to be performing since it was not my first time to be on the stage. I felt like every time when I was there performing, I was improving more and more. Thanks to Ms. Yong for providing us with a chance to show our piano skills and teaching us patiently. I hope I’ll make more progress in the future!”.
After learning about the classes’ endeavors, please look forward to their end-of-the-year recital which will show what each pianist has learned from their first performance this February!
