FIS & HIS: Culture and Music Exchange

by R. Constantine

35,000 years ago, humans evolved, loving music, and using it to spread their culture and tradition. The spread of culture and language has ultimately led to the world we live in now. Discovering information about each other's culture enriches our own. The HIS culture expanded through their exchange with Frankfurt International School (FIS). As the documenting reporter, it was heartwarming to watch the younger students from both schools share their culture through music.

The event started off with a few technical issues, like sound problems, but eventually, the problems were fixed and the exchange began. Students began asking each other questions about their school culture (e.g “Do you play soccer? etc.). FIS then showcased a Japanese song that they turned into a game, with actions very similar to Patty-Cake. Their song was beautiful; the performance was enjoyable.

HIS then began singing a Spanish-English song with very nice singing and energy. Ms. Yong assisted the HIS students with a wonderful piano performance. After the song, HIS asked FIS questions about German words and numbers, learning a little bit of German across the way!

The whole event was so nice to watch. Personally, I have not seen any other international school other than Niseko, so I was eager to find out more about other international schools and what they are like. I am glad that I signed up to report this project and I’m glad everyone in the exchange was happy too!
