In this first annual HIS Chess Tournament, it was great to see so many enthusiastic chess players come forward to compete.
After three weeks of qualifying rounds with 32 secondary students (10 middle schoolers / 22 high schoolers), 16 contenders remained to proceed to the knockout round.
Finally, on Monday, February 22nd, Lucas Cameron faced off against Taishi Ogawa in the final. Most of the secondary were there in attendance, watching the very evenly matched game in tense silence.
In the end, Taishi prevailed and received the first-ever HIS Chess Championship Chalice.
Congratulations to him, and to all who took part!
We saw some truly inspirational play throughout the tournament.
Looking forward to doing it again next year!
