David J. Gunkel is an award-winning educator and scholar specializing in the ethical and social impact of emerging technologies, and a leading voice in the debate surrounding robot rights. Bridging moral philosophy and media technology, he critically analyzes the implications of technological advancement. Gunkel has authored numerous scholarly articles and book chapters, alongside multiple influential books, including his Machine Question trilogy—The Machine Question (2012), Robot Rights (2018), and Person, Thing, Robot (2023)—in which he champions a relational approach to understanding and addressing the complex questions surrounding robot rights.
