Hokkaido International School offers students activities, including futsal, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and more. This semester, one of the after-school activities is Middle School Boys Futsal, a fast-paced sport similar to football (soccer) but played in a smaller indoor area. Futsal helps students improve their footwork, passing, and teamwork while also having fun with friends!

What We Do

Each futsal practice starts with a warm-up by running and doing explosive movements to get the players ready. After that, the players focus on improving specific skills such as passing, trapping, or dribbling. High school student John Wang volunteers to help with training, giving advice and demonstrating techniques to the middle school students.

Once training is finished, the players split into two teams for a match. The games will help them to practice what they’ve learned in a fun and competitive way. Sometimes, high school students join in, either to play or to help train the middle school students. The futsal sessions create a bond where all secondary school students are encouraged to participate and improve their skills together.

About the Club

The Middle School Boys Futsal Club provides an opportunity for students to stay active, develop their soccer skills, and bond with their teammates. The club is open to all boys middle school students who enjoy playing futsal, learning new techniques, and having fun after school. Whether they are beginners or experienced players, everyone is welcome to join!

Interview with Futsal players

What have you learned from this experience as a volunteer coach?

John: I’ve learned how rewarding it is to help others improve. Teaching someone a new skill and seeing them succeed is a great feeling. It also taught me patience because not everyone learns at the same speed.

Would you recommend other high school students to volunteer for sports clubs like this?

John: Of course. It’s a great way to give back to the school community, and you also learn a lot in the process. Plus, it’s fun to play and train with the middle schoolers.
