Prom 2024: A Secret Garden

Prom is a major event for most high schoolers around the world. It's a formal dance that is hosted usually by the school or the student council, where all the high schoolers come together and dress up to celebrate the ending of the year at a party with band performances, games, dinner, and also an opportunity for the younger years to spend their last few moments with the seniors.

Prom in Hokkaido International School

Prom in HIS is an event that is organized by STUCO, the student council. At this event, they organize the food, the venue, the theme, and the advertisement which encourages students to attend. Every year they will decide on a theme for the students to follow, an example being the theme for this year, Secret Garden, where everyone came dressed in their floral dress and formal suits. Every year for the past 2 years, we’ve been going to the same venue, but this year, it has finally changed based on a request from many students for something new.

STUCO's Thoughts on Prom

We asked some members of the student council what they thought of the prom this year. Audrey, the school president, and Juri, the service officer who is in charge of organizing the prom, both agreed that the new venue was much better compared to the one last year, as it has been the same setup for the past two years. “The venue looked perfect for a prom party, and it really matched the theme we decided on,'' Juri said.

Other People's Thoughts on Prom

When we asked other people what they thought of the prom this year, Jiwoo, a freshman, said, “I thought the band performance was really spectacular, and the venue was really nicely decorated.” Shuka, the class president of 9th grade, mentioned, “I really enjoyed the food at prom, and the venue was really pretty.”
