The HEALTHY Snack Table appears in HIS. But how did it appear and why it's no longer held? Find it out here!
The Sudden Appearance of the HEALTHY Snack Table: What it Was and the Positive Result

Huskies week started, and people were planning for it, and almost every group had the same issue: the cost was high. Every group noticed that quickly, and started to solve the problem by making money inside the school. Some of the groups sell baked goods like cookies, but this group did something that no other group thought of.
The Solution of the Financial Issue: The Healthy Snack Table
One of five Huskies week groups, “Sustainability and Organic Farming”, introduced a new program called the Healthy Snack Table. The goal? To sell healthy snacks on the 3rd floor of the school to make students and teachers healthier. Everyone loved it because they offered the snack at a cheaper price than most thought. One of the products, cheese, was even cheaper than cheeses at 7-Eleven.
The Sudden Appearance and Disappearance of the Healthy Snack Table
It came as a surprise, providing cheap, healthy snacks, but then it was gone. No warning, no announcement, nothing. I was curious. What happened to something so good? And so, I chose to interview a member of the Sustainability Group, Mr. Albert.
-
Was it successful?
“Yes it was, we got enough money from the program for our SDG trip, although there was an accident where the cheese was too cheap that we got too little profit.”
-
How many, and who were the members of the program?
“There were 5 members that contributed to this program. Me, Theo, Toshi, Kenzo, and Darius. Everyone did a great job.”
-
How did you feel about the original snack table that's next to the healthy snack table? Did you feel like it was a rival?
“No, not really, we just did what we could do, but at least we did some differentiation to make our profit higher.”
-
Where did you stock the products?
“It's prohibited to say it, it's a rule for our group, but if you don’t say it to anyone, we can tell you personally, we bought it from SECRET.”
It's sad to not see the healthy snack table again in school, but after interviewing Albert, I have a better understanding of why it went away. Now, they can have extra time to do their real goal: service. This group is currently making plans to help Niseko begin beautifying their campus by building planter boxes and first gardens.
But What About our Sapporo Students? What do we do When We’re Hungry?
The original snack table is still here so students and teachers can buy snacks from them, but some of the snacks are not healthy. We miss our healthy snacks, but what can we do? Students have to eat.
Despite the absence of the Healthy Snack Table, we always welcome new surprises, and wait for the day when Mr. Albert, or the group leader Theo, will reveal the secret location of their cheap, healthy snack source.
Stop by the school and see more service in action.
