AP Human Geography Students Map Their Knowledge
As part of the Political Geography Unit in AP Human Geography, students study the differences between a state, a nation-state, a stateless nation, and a multi-national state. As these concepts can easily get confusing, students had to create a new map with imaginary countries and boundaries that would help them grasp the differences between these key vocabulary words. They were easily energized by the inclusion of candy to represent different “nations” or ethnic groups. Students had fun creating new states such as “Kaizen-stan” and “Rizz-tania,” mapping the composition of those states on the landscape.
