What is the Art Club?
From the start of its foundation, the Art Club has been a place where any student can let their imagination run wild and create to their heart's desire. As the club has grown throughout the years, both in members and in achievements, it has expanded its projects from being individually made to working in groups in order to complete art pieces for the school. Notable examples include the background pieces for the school's many events and decorations hung around the school hallways to create a lively atmosphere.
These incredible art pieces have made all of the school’s events more festive and spirited as the vibrant atmosphere can be matched along with the beautifully decorated walls. Furthermore, showcasing the art pieces around the school also allows other students to see the amount of effort and skills their fellow classmates hold while building an interest in joining the club themselves.
What Does the Art Club Do?
As mentioned above, the Art Club has been moving its perspective from being more individually based to working on projects as a group. Although there are still times when students will work on their own personal projects, there has been an increase in opportunities for students to create artwork for different school events. Along with working on these different projects, the Art Club also holds a few lessons that teach new members the basic elements of art.
These lessons help new members hone their skills and explore which aspect they may want to experience more with, such as learning more about color theory or how to use space in order to fill a canvas with fewer objects. They also serve as a great reminder for advanced members who may be facing an “artists block” over how they could improve their art pieces. It’s a helpful reminder and a chance for a student to present to the club some knowledge they may have gathered from the internet or an in-person class they took.
Interview:
Marisa Ise (Member of 2025):
Why did you join the art club?
I joined because I like art. I also looked forward to working with other people in order to grow my knowledge about different art styles and how other people would approach a project. Even though I was kinda shy at first, I learned to get along with the other members pretty quickly.
What is your most favorite thing about the art club?
I like how the leader is responsible and keeps us in check while also allowing us the freedom to explore on our own. I like doing the art for the events because everyone gets to see the product of our efforts. And it’s also really fun.
Would you recommend the art club to other students?
Yes, because it's a place where anybody can experience their own passion for art. Nobody judges each other and everybody in the club works together and helps each other for certain projects. If you like to do art or crafts, I would definitely recommend it.
Shuka Tsujimoto (Member of 2025):
Why did you join the art club?
I like art and I wanted to do something related to art at school. The art club was a good place where I could accomplish both of these goals. It’s also fun to do art with other people as they can teach me something new.
What is your most favorite thing about the art club?
It’s really fun and relaxing. Compared to other clubs, I feel that the art club is the most calm. It’s a good place for me to focus on my art without being distracted by other people or things.
Would you recommend the art club to other students?
Yes I would recommend this club, especially if you're interested in art. It’s also good for people who may have wanted to take the school's art class but didn't have the option too. Making projects for the school is also pretty fun.
